Sandy is privileged to be a prayer warrior with the BASICS Prayer team. She acknowledges that without prayer, BASICS couldn’t do the work it does in the city of Milwaukee. Sandy has had a heart for Milwaukee, since arriving here in 1973. In her early Milwaukee years, she was a wife, and her greatest joy was being a mom to Deanna and Katey. Music was important in her life, and she joined the 84h Division Army Reserve Band, and retired after 20 years.
When the girls were in school, she finished her undergrad degree at Alverno College in music education. She taught in various schools in all areas of the city. She went on to receive her masters from Cardinal Stritch University in special education. She spent 9 years teaching special education before retiring.
She immediately became active at Elmbrook Church (besides the music ministry), and co-led a woman’s Bible Study on Tuesday mornings. A few years ago, Sandy and her husband Roy were being led to use their musical gifts in another church.
About this same time, Deanna became the Administrative Assistant at BASICS, and Sandy realized she still had a heart for Milwaukee, even after moving to Waukesha. She immediately started attending the Wednesday morning prayer meetings, and volunteering wherever needed.
She had been a civilian member of the Milwaukee Police Band, and loves to support the police and community at recruit graduations, many different ceremonies, schools (especially the 53206 area), and our annual concerts at the Pabst Theatre and Peck Pavilion.
